Sophie Borneck – Credits : Noé M’Hamdi
Born in 1984, Sophie Borneck grew up in the Jura region before settling in New Caledonia in 2010. Trained in visual arts, she develops a hybrid pictorial practice where memory, the biology of living organisms, and transformation are at the core of her approach.
A nomad, her work is a sensory exploration of memory and transmission. Between the forests of Jura, immersion in the Caledonian bush, and her travels to Japan, she navigates between territories and temporalities. The influence of Oceania permeates her daily life, while the contemplation of Japanese landscapes fuels a reflection on impermanence and the cycles of life.
Her organic motifs unfold across her memories like cartographies of time, where memory merges with biology. At the intersection of reality and dream, her visual language captures the ephemeral and celebrates nostalgia.
